I have a 94 tercel and I ve been reading everyones posts, so I decided to put a 5efe engine in my tercel after the 3e blew. So I put it in and not too long after I got it mounted and everything tightened down I turned to the wiring what I thought would be the last step, besides vacuum hoses, and Everything was different, turns out as far as I can tell it looks like the engine from a 95-99 paseo instead of a 91-94 paseo, the company I ordered it from sent me the wrong one wont let me exchange it... I changed out the coil pack and put a distributor from a 93 Paseo I got out of the j/y. Anyway I cant get it started all the WAY What to do?? PLZ help love this car THX
most likely there in lays your problem... the 3e will run on a 5efe ecu but wont work the other way around because the 5efe has an extra sensor in the distributor... providing it was from the same generation paseo(91-94)... seeing as you have the engine with the electronic ignition (95-99)you'd need the ecu for that engine and would have to wire it in for it to work.
So I need to wire in the the ECU from a 95-99 paseo engine, or 95-99 tercel? Can I use the same wirre harness or do I need to re do the wire harness as well??
well get the ecu for whatever the engine is out of...if its paseo then paseo... as for the wiring you most likely will have to re-wire it because i doubt the connections are the same for the 3e as the 5efe
Alright I guess I will try that but what about the vacuum lines there are 2 or 3 extra lines Im not sure where they are supposed to go I have been trying to find some pix so i can get some kind of idea but cant find any for the 95-99 engine... Any thoughts
they are on the right side of the engine, near the belts, on top of engine mount, they used to plug in block and in take I think, I think one of them goes to the Ac pump but my car is not equiped so SHould I just plug it??
Ohhh the VSV's (vacuum switching valves).I believe they have something to do with fuel pressure if iam not mistaken... do they hook onto the fuel rail?
yeah thats right one of them did but on this engine there isnt anywhere to put it i think i just got it towed to my new house after 6 months so im working off of memory its too dark to check it right now in Oregon. but yeah the vsv thats what they are called what should I do with them there is 1 extra spot on the brown vsv the same color as the old one, but there is one more with 2 spots I dont know what to do with
By the way I checked out your ride I like the interior what did you use to paint it?? Neons Sweet . thx I appreciate all your help and insight
you have a e-mail? ill send you pics of the 3e vsv's, and i have a vacuum hose diagram for the 5efe.. yeah the interior i ripped it out one summer and painted it with normal exterior car paint... taillights are different now though. still a work in progress always will be
