Piston rings

Okay my 4th cylinder plug is getting a lot of oil on it. I believe I need to replace my rings. My question is what are the steps that I need to take,
and how do I set the pistons after the job is done. Im pretty mecahnically inclined I just have never done this before so dont be afraid to get technical.

You'll want to just get a Haynes or Toyota service manual. It'll tell you what you need to know.

does the engine smoke when you are driving or just on start up? Or is it somking at all. If it is all the time then I would say rebuild and if just at start up replace valve seals.

davecl

as far as a rebuild goes take the head off and if it like my 94 tercel you will have to drop the exhaust to take the oil pan off then just take off the caps and pop pistons out the top. make sure to clean good and get rid of any carbon build up at the top of each cylinder.
