Fill your tank and zero your trip meter.
Next fill up, record the number of gallons it takes to fill up.
Divide the amount of miles traveled by the number of gallons it takes to refill the tank, and that is your milage for that tank full. Use all the decimal places too.
It is best if you do this several times and get an average because your milage can vary according to the driving you do, conditions, traffic, weight in the vehicle, things like that.
Always stop pumping when the pump clicks off (or maybe an extra click)

but always stop at the same number of clicks.
