Tercel Gauge Cluster Making Noise !

Hi i am new to this forum and i usually find a way to fix my car but this time im stuck. i have a 93 Tercel 3spd Auto. So my speedo is all messed up anytime i step on the throttle it starts making this noise like if the needle wanted to spin backwards and its very annoying. Also anytime i go over 30mph the speedo goes nuts and starts jumping all over the place and saying that im going 110mph ! im going to record a small vid so you guys can maybe help me diagnose the problem. I need help !

Thanks in advance. Jenni

Sounds like you need a new speedometer cable, or a new speedometer.

no, not to hard at all. twist it out of the tranny then pop it out of the instrument cluster. it might be possible that yours is just loose. check that out first.

yeah it goes from the trany(youll see it beside the shifter cables) or if its auto in the back of the tranny, and through the fire wall into the cluster

My 95 also does this at low temps and as the car warms up it goes away.

I have a manual transmission.

Could someone post a picture of where the cable is?

My goal is to try and lubricate it before replacing.

its the cluster that makes noise, just take it out and lubricate where the cable goes in, my dads 4Runner has been makeing a cluster noise since weve owned it and its been good for 7 years now, and i probubly made the noise before we owned it, its really mostly from the cold
