Speedometer cable

My speedometer doesnt work, so I removed the cable from the tranny end, hooked it up to a power drill and it worked great! Reinstalled the cable back to the tranny and it still doesnt work. Any suggestions?

How is the gear? Is it still in the tranny where it is supposed to be or is it inside ground up to pieces?
