USA 96 Tercel Tranny Replacement

Hello all.. I am new to the site after lurking for some time. I have learned alot from all of you and now the time comes to ask a question of my own.

I am replacing the trans on my sons 96 Tercel (130,000, 3-speed auto A132L) and wanted to know if anyone here has any input on trouble spots or advise to make the job eaiser. We have secured a used trans with 77K on the clock with a warranty and should have it in our hands by tommorow.

While we have the trans out we planned to change some leaky seals; does this motor have both a front and rear main seal? I guess we may as well change the timing belt while we are changing the front main.. right?

Thanks for all the help you have unknowingly provided and for your help on this matter.

Nick

Yes, front and rear main. Change the timing belt and the guide bearing. You may also want to purchase a gasket kit and do a mini "rebuild" while you are in there. Changing gaskets now will prevent oil leaks and stuff later. Welcome to the site. I'm sure somebody who is well versed on an auto trans will come along shortly to help with that.
