1987 tercel station wagon

i was taking the front spart plug to check it. so i put it back in and when i was taking the socket off the spark plug extendor hit the alternator and caused an arc for a split second and now it wont start, the lights in the dash wont light up the only thing that works is the head lights. i tested all the fuses in the fuse box by the battery, and the one by the clutch pedal inside the car, and even the battery. i was wondering what could be wrong with it.

In general it is near the battery. I only have a sedan manual available and it is different. It has been a while so you may have to look around. Is there a small black box on the positive cable? If so open it. The fuse links should be there. You may have a small ring connector with a wire or 2 going from the terminal to a connector. That is another type of fuse link. If not go to the engine fuse block. You already checked the conventional fuses. There should either be some wires, usually white or yellow, or some large fuse link, box like in shape which is colored pink or green or black or red. In general if you put 3 fuses together it is about the same size.

How to check it depends on your style. If it is a small box you may be able to see the inside through a clear window. You will see it broken or seperated if bad. If it is a wire type you need to measure continuity from terminal to terminal. DO you know what type you have? Tell you what, if you cannot tell take a picture of your underhood fuse box and battery positive cable with the red boot removed and post it here or e-mail it to me at hevster1@yahoo.com. This way I can tell you what to do.
