1988 Tercel sarts and die

Hi There,

Everything was fine, the car started this morning like always but after 5 minutes driving, while standing in a red light it died.

When you turn the key and crank the engine it will start for 1 second and then die. (almost like when you leave the key it dies)

Help??

Sounds like a vac leak- egr...etc , but could be a host of other stuff-(fuel pump-filter-electrical.. etc )the easiest is to
look for a disconnected or cracked vac hose first

Thanks for the reply.
So i looked for hoses that are loose but all looks fine.
When i start the car it will idles fine for 2 sec and die. So i drip some fuel directy to the carb and it will idle for 6 sec and die.

If i pump the gas pedal quickly i can keep the engine running but rough.

seems to be the carb.

any help from here?

Fuel filter fine
Fuel pump fine. pushing lots of fuel with no problem.

Carb??

no fuel smell. more like not enough fuel is getting to the throttle. maybe a blockage in the carb??

Got spark
Got fuel to carb
No visible vac leaks..................................
did you check your EGR Valve?
What engine type---3A, 3AC, 3E ?
Carb is different on 3E

Peace
