my paseo eats fuel pumps for breakfast!

k, so ive gone through 2 fuel pumps in 4000 miles and the current pump is starting to get funny like the rest.

WHY!

heres what i know about the paseo. i bought it from a guy who dropped a new motor in it and he mentioned something about it being a tercel motor. when i did a clutch job on it, the friction plate was wrong making me think it wasnt a 92-95 paseo 5efe engine. but what would that matter if the harness and computer was still stock?

what should i trouble shoot?

Have you replaced the fuel filter yet? Also if there is sediment in the fuel tank that would cause premature wear.

filter is brand new. tank is clean as a whistle.

however... the first time i replaced it, the filter was missing from the tank so it was obvious that it had been changed before. but why does the pump keep failing?

For some reason the pump may be required to operate under a higher fuel line pressure increasing the load on the pump.

Is there another in-line filter that could be parceled plugged up?

Does this new engine have a fuel pressure regulator that could be set too high or not working? Does the fuel injection system design bypass the excess fuel back to the fuel tank and if so is the bypass regulator working OK.

Is the pump installed properly, most of these pumps require fuel to cool them down. Is the pump intake getting enough fuel?

How is the wiring, it the pump receiving fuel voltage and current. Lower voltage and currant can cause pump overheating.

It is also possible that wrong pump is being used, or if rebuilt you are getting bad parts. Have experienced numerous failures in a row of the same part due to poor rebuild workmanship.

Suggest doing a fuel pressure and flow test at the point where the fuel goes into the injector rail. Use an amp and voltmeter to see how much voltage is available at the pump and how many amps it is drawing when on.
