Canada tired 92 tercel

hi there, I've got a 92 tercel which I bought 2 years ago and have put 50,000 km on. The vehicle cost me 500 bucks and has no rust whatsoever. Since owning it, I've done the brakes, and recently replaced both front driveaxles. The valves in one of the cylinders are starting to go. The engines got 280 k on it. I've been warned that a valve job is pretty tough, but I'm having fun learning as I go, so I'm up for the challenge. Anyone got any tips? I've been told that buying just valves and rebuilding is not worth it, that I should replace the whole head. I've also been thinking about a replacement engine. Any places I should look for low km engines round van? Also, are their any options for a larger engine that won't be too much hassle bolting in?
Thanks

To rebuild the head, your going to need various SST's from the dealer. SST = Special Service Tool. Ordering a rebuilt one will save you a lot of time. Keep in mind that you need to send your head to the machine shop for re-surfacing after the rebuild. There is a .pdf service manual online for the 1st gen 5E-FE.

This should have most of the specs you need for the rebuild. Also has the SST #'s you'll need for the tools. As for replacement engines, the 4e-fte is a good option. Check out the "Common Engine Swap" thread right here on TN. Search Ebay after you look at the thread. Hope this helps. Peace
