1993 Toyota Tercel NO SPARK?

Hey, I brought my Tercel in to my schools autoshop to check compression of the cyclinders and when we tried to start it after the compression check it wouldnt start...We found that there was no spark coming from the plugs at all. Could this be the ignition module or coil? I mean, is there a possibility one of these went bad from the cranking for the compression test...Any Ideas?

Thanks,Matt

CK all fuses. Make sure everything is plugged in. Failure from doing a comp test is highly unlikely.

ok, well i tested the igniter module harness and its not getting voltage. Does this mean its the ignition switch or the ECM? Again the car turns over (tries to start) but wont spark at the plugs, or in this case, even give power to the igniter module......Any ways to test the ECM or the Igniter Switch? Any other possibilities?

Thanks so much!

You might try changing out the igniter. You can find one at an any auto parts store for around 300 dollars. Or go and pay 3 dollars to get into a junk yard and pull one from any Tercel,Paseo,Corolla,or Camry.
Also if you need a coil the same cars apply for that as well. And these items are pocket size if you know what I mean. There are 2 kinds of igniter's depending on what the plug looks like. The one you need is the one with 5 prongs on the inside and two little notches on top for the plug.
If it has a notch for the plug on the bottom you have found the wrong igniter some Corollas and Camry's have different plug attachments.

Oh, yeah if you have trouble finding the ecu, get one from a Paseo the same years as your Tercel. The check engine light will appear but if the ecu is good and your car starts you can remove the check engine light and also you will have upgraded to 7,000 rpms instead of 5,200.
I'm assuming you have a 91-94 Tercel find a 92-94 Paseo you will be fine.
