There is a c-clip on the splined portion that goes into the tranny, so that provides some resistance. Either use a prybar or a hammer and drift on the metal portion of the CV joint where it attaches to the trans. Sometimes you cant get a good point to apply leverage w/ a prybar, so you have to use the hammer/drift. I would not recommend pulling on the hub side, as the only thing keeping the CV joint together is the boots/clamps, and if they come apart you'll have a giant mess, as well as an issue getting them back together.
If you dont want to pull the halfshafts from the hub, youll have to disconnect the hub from the lower a-arm, strut, steering, and brake caliper.
