Oil Light turns on and off twice this week

Hey guys I have a 1992 Toyota Paseo and I am having an odd problem

This past tuesday I drove to my friends which is about 1.5 hours away.

On the way back the oil light turned on then turned off, but it was flickering somewhat fast.

I couldn't get an actual reading at the time because the the car was being driven and I had just turned off the ignition. But I bought One quart of oil and i put it in and the light didn't turn back on afterwards.

That was about 4 days ago. Everything was good until earlier this afternoon.
The oil light turned back on while I was driving so I pull over and i check the oil level and i don't think i got an accurate reading because i was driving it for like 5 minutes. But I checked my oil level and it showed up as really low.

I put another quart of oil in and the light hasn't been on since.

I have an oil change i need to get in about 800 more miles.

I wanted to know what the problem could be.

I am not leaking anything, and I didn't smell any oil either. I don't think the engine is burning oil either. The performance of the car is still good

So what could be a possible problem.

I was wondering about the oil pressure, i don't know how to check pressure of it.
I wanted to know a decent about this problem before I run to a mechanic and ask them because you know, that if they know the you don't have a clue what you are talking about they can take advantage of you
No offense to those that are mechanics on this forum but it's based on the experiences I've had with my family. Lol sorry for the Bias.

First off do the oil change now with a new filter. Use oem filter. Fill with the proper amount of oil, about 3.8 quarts and start and let run for about 5 minutes. Shut it down and on level ground recheck the oil level after about another 5 minutes. Top off if necessary. Drive the car. Recheck the oil in 500 miles and add oil if necessary to top off. If you have to add oil record how much oil. If more than 1/4-1/2 of a quart you have internal engine problems which need to be repaired such as rings, valve seals etc. If you keep adding oil and driving it it gets expensive after a while. Then again so is a major engine repair.
