95 tercel shifter

I have a 95 tercel with automatic transmission. The button is sticking on the shifter to disengage from park. Once the car is out of park everything works great. I would appreciate any ideas on how to fix the shifter or should it be replaced. If it needs replacing how do you do that.

Re: 95 tercel shifter

Can you be more specific? Does the button get stuck in or out when coming out of park? Its only park?

Maybe take it apart and see if anythings caught in there, and that its still lubed up good.

Only pushing the button in is the only time it sticks. Its only in park also. Everthing else about it works fine. I will give your suggestion a try. Thanks

Are you stepping on the brake pedal?

Yeah I am stepping on the brake. Is there a sensor on the car that will prevent it from coming out of park if something is wrong.
