Ive read most of the posts on this subject, but i still have a few questions about compatibility.
I have a 92 Tercel DX, after 12 years the engine is going, and a replacement sound like a good option as the rest of the car, tranny included is in awesome shape.
Stock engine, 5spd manual is what it has, and im leaning toward the Starlet GT 1.3L turbo for a replacement.
Q1: are the transmissions compatible? i really dont want to have to replace it, as its a good transmission, and extra cost is never good.
Q2: There is a bit of body rust on the car, near the ground mostly, and a bit around the windshield, but the frame seems fine. A friend of mine said that if there is any rust, it means the frame is weak, and a powerful engine will tear teh car apart. Is this true?
Last question: are the ignition, water pumps, etc compatibile? if i swapped these two engines, what else would have to be changed?

Yes they are however the turbo tranny has a gear ratio more suited for the turbo to function. Plus it's best to buy a half cut so the tranny, suspension and wiring all come together.

No, it's a front wheel drive car. There is no frame between the engine and the output shafts. The body basically is there for the ride. Now the suspension and brakes need beefing, best no rust in that area.

There is a modification to the wiring needed and then run the turbo ecu. A few other minor mods may be needed and somebody with direct knowledge should help you once you are ready to commit.
Thanks a lot Alex

ok, im ready to go. i have the car, the cash and just a few more questions.
How much other stuff needs to be changed out for the Starlet?
eg: wiring, fuel pump, ECU, booost control??? oh yeah, and if anyone knows specfific parts that would be really helpful. The dealership is not very helpful but they can get the parts and the engine if i tell them exactly which parts i need.
Thanks guys. ill be sure to send in some pics once its all done up.
