'89 Tercel Questions

Looking to check out this '89 Tercel as a summer beater while gas prices jump, and to continue some work on my DD '69 CST10 Few things I need to know:

What are certain things to look out for on these particular cars? Common trouble spots, wiring problems, etc. The carb looks like a cluster fuck of vacuum lines as well. How trouble some can these little cars get?

Also, I live off a highway (20 miles round trip daily for classes), and I do pizza delivery as a job (good money in college). Are these little 80hp guys capable of 65-75 mph cruising?

The price is crackpipe, but I'll see about talking it down.

It'll run over 100 in stock form but cruises well at 80. You'ld prolly get better economy from a 91 or newer as it has fuel injection. As far as potential check out this....

Most of the later model Tercels out at the moment seem trashed, exception of one other I'll be looking at as well. But, these look a bit better, imo.

I'm not new to carburetors, but I'm used to pre-emissions era stuff, don't know exactly how these motors are ran, there's little info. Hopefully it won't be trouble.

If it does get troublesome, any el-cheapo methods of eliminating some of that mess (simpler aftermarket 2bbl carbs, or some junkyard EFI swap) for these cars? I couldn't find much of anything, besides they seem to share some bits with the Paseo? Also don't know if these are a computer controlled carb, like the GM cars eventually had, or what. Not concerned about keeping all of the emissions components on, as long as it looks stock and runs clean, it will pass off here.

What in the hell did you do to the little guy?

Those pics/video are of another member, alfradio. Look him up on http://board.tercelonline.com for his builds, weight improvements, troubles and anything he's done to it. Quite impressive and he's an older guy.
