1981 Tercel AWD conversion

Hello, first time posting here.
I just picked up an 81 Tercel and want to do something fun with it.
Im wondering how I could convert it to AWD fairly simply.
Would the AWD parts from a 2nd gen Tercel (tranny rear diff and axles) more or less just bolt up?

Eventually Id like to do an engine swap, most likely a 4a-ge. If I were to get a AWD tranny from a 2nd gen Tercel, would that tranny fit onto a 4a-ge?

You are talking about to completely different beasts so no they don't just bolt up it woukd take some modding.

So what would be the best way of going about converting a first gen Tercel to AWD?

Without wishing to sound facetious - "Buy a Gen II 4WD Wagon."
The short list of needs: The T4WD transmission (scarce in itself); the rest of the T4WD drivetrain and rear end; an unbelievable modification to the body and rear suspension mounting points.
Or - and again without wishing to sound facetious or snarky - mount the Gen I body on a 4WD truck chassis - I know it's been done with a Gen II sedan - dunno about Gen I.
I believe Toy did make a 4WD Gen II sedan, but never brought to North America.
We do have a great T4WD Club at www.tercel4wd.com/forums/.

Would it be a lot simpler to simply convert to RWD?

If you want awd get a Celica alltrac. If you want rwd get an ae86 or kp61 (like mine in sig). Converting is expensive and can make a car unstable. Start with a platform that's setup for what you want and it'll be far safer and cheaper.

Park next to a 93 Celica and notice it's about the size of the Tercel anyway and comes with a 3sgte turbo!
