hi, my first post on this forum.
i bought a 96 paseo just yesterday.
and i had an H4 hid kit lying aroud so i wanted to inatall it but i ran into a bit of a problem. when i turn the car on the daytime driving lights go on and they dont have enough power to power the hid's i believe they are ony 11.5 volt but when i turn on the low beams they have enought to power the hids,
so i guess my question is is there a way to disable the day time driving lights so the lights dont go on automatically when in start the car
Im not realy a car expert, but u can simply remove the bulb, or cut a wire that powers that bulb. That is if Daytime lights are separate from ur highbeams and lowbeams.
If u have a manual in the car u can check maybe u can remove some Fuse that controls that. There has to be one.
In canada i think u have to have daytime driving lights, u can maybe simply replace the bulbs to go lower voltage. Bulb it self i think is cheap, im not sure.

thanks i would appreciate that,
the daytime running lights and low beams are on the same wire ans the day time's go on as soon as i start the car and the hid's dont have sufficient power so they just flicker and go off
If u have a VOLT meter, u can try to find whats the actual voltage find a 12 volt spot in the fuse box and connect them directly from there with some wire. Im not realy sure. You will need some pliers, wire and voltmeter. This would be possible because as I belive the power cuts off from the fusebox when car is off = so u wont drain ur battery. and since ur canadian, it will keep those lights on ALL THE TIME as long as there is a fuse there and your car is runnning.
Your best bet is the diagram though.

HID kits installed in reflectors or optics designed for filament bulbs are unsafe, ineffective, and illegal (both under FMVSS108 and CMVSS108 and the States and Provinces in the countries that utilise those standards).
Canada requires DRLs requires DRLs on all new vehicles made or imported after January 1, 1990. Sure, you bought it used, but you still need to have DRLs on when in motion (unless you're content to have your headlights in the On position when in motion). If your province has inspections, they may still inspect for functioning DRLs.

Interesting but a question, if you want one that is legal, they sell the whole thing for the Tercel or you have to fabricate it as the article says? I really like those white lights. I forgot, are LED's really an option. are they bright enough.

It would have to be a complete swap in of a projector with the right optics for it. Not a cheap conversion, but it can be done.
LED headlight conversions are a long way off. Again, it would almost certainly have to be a projector and optics assembly designed to use LEDs; there are no LED bulbs that install in fixtures designed for arc-discharge or filament bulbs and actually work.
Also, from that same article: "though it should be noted that "cooking" the lens off a composite headlamp, installing HID optics and re-sealing the lens creates major problems of its own, and does not result in a legal headlamp."
The Tercel may not have a strong enough following to ever see a complete HID projector retrofit package...
i figured it out, i dont even have to disable drl's all i need is a relay, my kit didt come with one so i had a hard time trying to get them to work properly
