Last weekend we removed engine and cleaned it up, removed Harmonic Balancer. To get to timing belt. Look up my project post if u want to know more bout that.
This question is about the "Harmonic Balancer" Here is a picture of it. Looks like there is a large chip on the outer rear ring. Its NOT rusty exept the paint is chipping. Whole thing seems preaty SOLID. I dont know what could have made this chip.
Being around 100$ for a new one . (And i want to save money for interior repair) I was wondering if you guys think it needs to be replaced at all? It did not make any sound or anything. Should I grind the Chip a bit so its not sharp? Which side should i face the chip: toward timing belt cover or on toward the front like on the picture?
Rubber is a bit beat up due to our horrid attempts at removal of Harmonic balancer without special tool. (Borrowed form Autozone) but its no less then 3mm so it seems ok. Might not be visible completly.
