cranky

Been gone fer awhile. ****. Still realin‘ a bit..

Anyway, need some feed back to confirm things.
Last summer I did an oil pump replacement. Decided to do the water pump and all hoses since i was there. so I pulled the rt mount. Had my nephew heppin me. Had him support the motor with a bottle jack whilst I pulled the mount. Fer four days it sat till the pump got shipped. I didn’t notice he supported it by placing the jack under the crank counter weight until I went to put the pump on. Argggh….

Haven’t driven it much till lately.

Now I get 200mi out of a tank when it was 350 city. Fair vibration, no knock that i can hear. but i don't trust my ears. to many planes and loud guitars in my youth. The oil pressure light is late to go out after start.

Think she's bent/spun?

I haven’t pulled any caps. Kinda afraid to. Oil’s clean, and I normally don’t view an idiot/oil light as law, but w/the vibration and mileage thing, well…

and no diff in perfomance. still the same slug..... performance and 3E in the same sentance?

To old fer this sh*t…… tnx......

So he put it on the rod cap or the counterweight itself? Either way, if you bent the rod or spun the bearing, the rod probably would have broke or you would have a knock. On the bright side, test your coolant temp sensor. That kind of drop in fuel mileage could be attributed to it failing. Might be a coincidence that it failed right after working on it. Sorry to hear about you loss. Wish you the best.

supported on the counter weight not cap. thinkin' i spun crank..... no rod knock. i can tell a rod, wrist or crank end. not that. if there is any knocking, it's a very low frequency and i can feel it in the steering wheel. thats why i was leaning toward a crank. my first fwd car, but i though the vibration could transmit to the wheel via drive line. unlike rwd. but thats why i asked hear....

feed back carb, water, k, seems very plausable. since the wifey told me today she heard some pinging. ck that. ty.

i'd like to think you're spot on w/the sensor. cheap enough to r&r. may, that is contributing to the vibration.

thinking now, i should check the balancer. my old one was chipped and i use one from a yard. when i did the pump last summer. mine was cracked exactly like this

Harmonic Balancer Question

i mean exactly. same length same place from the notch. i also found a dent on the inside bottom of the t-cover and figured a rock or something got wedged up there. what are the odds with a belly pan/diaper installed.

i knew you guys would make me think.. wish i had good ears.....

i'm running autolite plugs like a good american block should. but what do you guy's run? nips?

thnx fer the emotion tap. both of you.

K, so here's a funny.

been to lazy to check anything out.

two days ago i was warming the puppy up. standing outside of the car. heard a metal knocking noise. turns out my walker muff tossed a baffle. i could see it bouncing around, blocking and up blocking the exhaust.
fickin' hate ethanol additives. life time muff was a good choice.

no more pinging, back up to over 40mpg, and doesnt warm up real fast, vibration gone.
doh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ty again guys
