Toyota keys...

Well I lost the keys for my 91 tercel and I was just wondering if older toyota keys sometimes work in different cars. I might stop by the junk yard and see if they have a few. A nissan truck key opened the door but wont work in the ignition, thanks.

All you have to do is take the VIN to a Toyota dealership with proof of ownership and they will make a key. Cost about $15.00

Well I called the deaerl today and they said the records for key codes start in 92...So I pulled the pass door apart and got a code off the lock cylinder and had some new keys made.

Depending on if your locks/ignition/etc. are worn, sometimes you can get another Toyota key to work. My Cressida's key can open and start my friend's 1990 Camry easily since the lock cylinders are so worn out.

I pick up a 91 tercel with no keys.
So did the dealer make the new keys with the lock cylinder # you gave them? Did you have to show proof off ownership?

I took the PASSENGER side door lock out and got a code off of it. Then take that code to a lock and key shop, give them all the info and they will cut a new key for you. It is kind of a pain in the ass. I guess the toyota dealer does not have key codes for these cars until 1992...
