Any higher amp alternator?

I have a 95 tercel and was wondering if I could get a higher amp alternator I have added part of a stereo and would like to add more but my volts drop if I turn the volume up. I have a optima battery and have thought about a second battery but would rather start with a better alternator.

Is the alternator for a a/c car more amps?
I have searched and found acura alternator can be added (more info please)?
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Cy

Try hooking up a 1 farad capacitor before upgrading the alternator. How many watts is the amp for your subs? RMS watts and peak power please.

The acura alt requires a little custom work on top bracket but nothing bad. Also requires some wiring/possible regulator swap but then works like factory and makes over 100 amps. With our thin belts I don't suggest much more.

Is there a DIY link to the acura alt. mod?

I think I have a weak alt so I would rather replace it then I might use a capacitor. I have a 400W(RMS) Phoenix Gold amp. I would like to add a second amp a sony 222W. I currenlty have the PG amp running (1) 10"sub. When I add a second set of 6.5 component set I will be using the PG amp for the (4) 6.5 speakers and the 222W sony for a sub. I have some pics of the 6.5 JVC in the rear deck posted on this site.

I have a volt gauge added to my cluster and it drops very easily with little load and quickly with power draws. I would have no proplems moding the braket/new one and with the wiring if I decided to do the acura alt mod.

If your alternator is original, its probably time for a rebuild or new one. IIRC, the Nippon-Denso factory alternator is rated for 80 amps. I had 4 10's running off a 1200W RMS JBL amp. Before the cap, my dome light would dim severely on every hit. After the cap, it would only dim when I cranked it up to deafening levels. A 1 farad cap will help take some stress off the battery and alternator especially during peak load. Each hit draws a big burst of current in which the cap helps provide. Take a look at your inline fuses on the amps. That will give you an idea of how much amperage you could possibly draw on full load. The amps fuses are sized to be slightly above the max current draw. Good luck with the mod.

I'm not sure about using the sony on subs. I think it's built for highs. How many ohms is the pg stable to? Is the 10 a dvc? And....what music do you listen to?

The volt gauge hardly moves when I turn the volume up with the key on ACC. I have a 850cca Optima battery that seems to handle the load. only when it is running I have the huge voltage drop.
The sony amp has been used on the sub for a couple of years and has a high and low crossove setting. I used the sony amp in my S15 Jimmy on the (1) 10" Pioneer sub and a set of 4X6 infinity front off an alpine deck and worked fine for me.
Not sure how many oms stable the PG amp (tantrum) is but it is a (4) channel amp with adjustable cross over not just a switch. Don't know what you are asking about DVC?
I am using a 4 gauge wire until the first fuse block under the hood to a 60A fuse then a 8 gauge to the amp in the back with 25A fuses on the amp.Mostly this is car is using all my spare parts I have from previous projects and also need the higher amp alt because I have (3) 6" KC lights I would like to add for country driving as I have almost hit several moose night driving.
I'm all over the place with music: metal, rock, new country. Mostly just looking for a clean sound.
Still unsure where the DIY for the acura mod is if there is one?
Shout out of thanks,
CY

im using my stock alternator with a deep cell battery up front, deep cell in the trunk and a 5 farad cap. and have no problems with power anymore now that i ran new 1/0 gauge wiring. before it would drop under 12 volts with 4 gauge wiring. now with 1/0 gauge when its pounding it stays right above 12 volts. when the car is running at idle its running like 14.7 volts.
