'92 Paseo 1.5 liter.. do the valves need to be adjusted periodically and if so, is there a spec/procedure reference I can use? Also how do I know if I have a 3e? or 5e?
All Pseo came with 5efe and only way to adjust valves is to reshim them. Unless you've replaced the cam or had the head rebuilt this isn't needed. If they are making noise you may try marvel mystery oil.
ok well that eliminates that idea. i was kinda hoping that somehow one of the exhaust valves got out of adjustment and isnt seating completely. as i have intermittent.. more so than not, but loss of compression in #4.
btw i love this site

Tercel GTS has mentioned before about the potential for sticking piston rings. This may be the root of your problem. Do you run synthetic oil?

Also I hate to bring bad news but keep in mind my Paseo project is on hold due to a worn block. My cylinder closest to belts (#1) has over .030" wear at one end on one side. 204,000 miles and it's a 91-92.
It really seems to me that 5e was a new design for that year and the blocks didn't get seasoned long enough. I haven't heard problems from 93 or 94 Paseo but 91-92 and 92 catch hell.
*for those wondering there was an early 92 Paseo that is often called a 91 or 91-92 as the whole car body and all are slightly different from the others
i got it last year with about 180k on it and have already put about 30k since getting it. I have been using synthetic since I have had it. I tried the seafoam thing filling the cylinders and letting it soak a couple weekends ago and didnt notice any difference, and the only thing that seems to help a little is using Lucas Oil's gas additive.
