Push Button start. By force

Long story short, my car would crank and sometimes it wouldn't. Good starter, line from ignition was getting power to starter but would only turn sometimes. However every time I supplied direct power to the starter it would turn. Short on time I basically placed a starter button in the little coin holder on the left side of the dash and have been using that for about a month. I would like to crank the car like normal person. Any Ideas on what this electrical issue can be?
