a friend of mine suggested this, and i thought it might be a good idea, acting almost like a supercharger, putting more air into the intake........... any thoughts?
Well I know for sure it will not act like a supercharger since that is forced induction. A 4-barrel carb will not work on a tercel and is WAY too big for one. Maybe, just maybe a guy could totally rework one from an early mazda rx7 to work on a toyota but I doubt it. Those rx7's used to have a small 4-barrel made by Hitachi I think. But ya, probably not worth trying, your best bet would probably be a Weber for your application.
no its an 87' 1.5 12v 1b carb 3e engine, and im trying to get the most out of the stock engine, as physically possible, and im willing to try anything, im also tryin to find and exhaust and headers, but i dont really know what to look for, my carb is kindof shitty, and if im going to replace it, i want something that could help me in my goal, any suggestions would help, and dont just tell me not to do it because its not worth it, trust me i know its stupid idea, but i want to see what i can get out of it , so please any ideas will help, thank you
I looked into it too, it would be very hard to find a matching one, its best for u to just repair and redo ur carburator and adjust it, its not that hard.
Its gonan be much harder to get a 4 barrel one to work properly, and the modification is gonna cost a lot
Even a new or refurbished engine wouuld be cheaper

Haven't seen a better aftermarket carb for the 3E than Weber/Redline. 4 barrels eh, um. Don't see why it would need it or benefit from it. Not enough cfm for it to help.

A 4-barrel carb will not benefit you at all. If you managed to attach one, it would just eat gas and run poorly or not at all. There is such a thing as over-carbureting the engine.
I would (and did) get the Redline Weber 32/36 2-barrel carb kit. It's barrels are already larger combined than the stock hole in the intake manifold that the carb attaches to so I doubt anything larger would help. I swapped my stock carb out for one on my 89 tercel and it made a world of difference for acceleration. Total cost of the swap for me was about $500 in parts (including fuel pressure regulator and all the odds and ends) and lots of time installing and tweaking it - worth every penny. There's also a snorkel attachment for the Weber that can be used to make a cold air intake, which I would (and hopefully will) also install for a little extra performance.
I wouldn't bother with fixing the stock carb unless it's something simple and obvious. I spent countless hours and money trying to make the stock carb work well on my car and never got any lasting results. I looked into doing a rebuild on mine, but really it didn't seem worth it since there's a fundamental design flaw. There's some part (piston?) in the stock carb coated in teflon, which eventually fails because the part is exposed to gasoline slowly eats through the teflon
If you're going for something more extreme, you might be able to rig up a turbo or you could do a fuel-injection conversion on it.
