just bought a 94 paseo 81k miles

new here, but a massive toyota owner.
just got this paseo from the original owner.... nothing has ever been done to it except the a/c converted to r-134a. and the timing belt has never been changed. it is a very nice car, everything works.
yall please give me some input on the car... what do i need to do to it
to keep it reliable... will be commuting about 90 miles a day.
with oil/filter changes habitual to 3-4k miles like the orig owner did.
he used shell rotella 15w40 oil and wix filters.
the tranny oil is brite red and was serviced at the dealer at 70k miles.
all serviced paper work was forwarded to me with the title.

had the a/c running high when test driving for about 45 minutes
stop and go traffic and then about 15 minutes of interstate driving
around 65mph. temp gauge never got over half scale.
it appears to be in fine condition, as far as i can tell.......

yall tell me more about this car !!!
thanks

Good find with getting a Paseo. They are very reliable cars and you can rack up the miles if you take car of it. Great fuel mileage to boot. To address your temp problem, you probably have a bad thermostat. Sending unit could also be the problem but t-stat is more likely. Recommended interval for timing belt replacement is 90k but the belt can last considerably longer than that. Better to get it done than be calling a tow truck at 3am. Here's a few ideas for keeping it running good.

1.Use synthetic engine oil. I don't know your budget but you can extend your oil change to 5-7k miles and its better for the motor. 15W-40 is pretty heavy oil with only 81k. Recommend 10W-30 for about the next 45k miles.
2.The weak link in the E motors is the valve stem seals. It will start to use oil around 100-125k miles. You can get them replaced but it usually involves removing the head to repair. Can be a bit expensive if your not DIY inclined.
3.Get a trans fluid service every 30k. Have them exchange all the old fluid for new. Usually costs about $150. Good idea to drop the pan for 100k service and clean the pan and magnets.
4.Get your oil seals replaced at 100k. Don't wait for it to start leaking. Leaking oil costs you money and the engine could suffer if it doesn't get checked often. Plus, nobody likes that mysterious oil stain in their driveway.
5.Don't forget about the brakes and suspension. Seems you've got a service history from the PO but keep an eye and ear on them.

Good luck with the Paseo.
