UK Remote locking on a '96 Paseo

Hi to all global Toyota owners!. I am new to this site and this is my first post!
I have a RHD '96 Paseo (in UK) with remote / alarm central locking. It stopped working a few weeks back. So I changed the battery in the key fob, reset system by holding down the lock button, whilst doors were locked, till the light flashed on the fob. I then pressed the unlock button and it all worked.

Well it's happened again & I can't get it to work at all. Anybody have any ideas where to start looking? I thought maybe it is the alarm control box in the dash, but not sure what it looks like or where located. Or could it be in one of the door's? Couldn't find any threads on this so loads of ideas would be great.

I have been considering changing the whole alarm system as when the alarm went off. It wouldn't even scare a mouse. Really quiet. Oh it appears to be the factory fitted one. Ideas on new alarm / immobiliser would be great to.

Not sure if EDM is the same as USDM but the control box should be under either the passenger side seat or driver seat. Its under the driver seat in mine. I had issues with a water leak shorting out mine and I haven't used it in years. Has your keyless been through the washing machine by accindent? Another part of the reason why I never bothered to fix mine. The alarm is incredibly annoying. Uses the stock horn and flashes the lights. And won't go off unless you turn the key back and forth in the ignition several times.

Thanks. No remote is dry. get this.. I changed the battery again in the remote and it works fine. I think the quality of battery I used was rubbish. Live and learn i guess.
