Popping sound resolved.

The popping turned out to be the balancer collar on the passenger side half shart. It appears to be set in rubber, but mine tore loose and was freely rattling around on the shaft. Has anyone had this happen before? Unfortunately, it looks like the only fix is to replace the shaft, unless I can silicone it back in place.

Doubt that silicone is gonna hold it. Mine is pretty well cracked and moves around a good bit but hasn't broken yet. Good idea to replace the shaft but check the boots on both LF and RF shafts. They may not be far behind and you may be in need of a pair of new shafts. If the CV joints are in good shape, you can go the rebuild route. Its messy and a PITA but cheaper.
