A 96 will use the "new" type of refrigerant. You have to have the heater fane "on" before the AC button will light up. And the likely hood of the clock wires being there, are good IMO.

Your refridgerant will be R134a. As for the clock wires, its hit or miss. Best thing you can do is pull the cover and check. As for getting clock, hit a junkyard or two. At least if it doesn't fit, it won't cost you much. If the harness isn't there, you can still wire it up to the red power wire and ground wire for the radio. This way it will turn on and off with the ignition relay.

Would that mean you would have to set the clock every time the car is turned off?
The clocks have 3 wires; a power wire for the light that is hooked to the ignition, a constant power to keep the time when the car is off, and a ground.

Ya, the memory wire is there too wise guy. Such a thing would be obvious if holding the clock which he doesn't have yet. Its gonna be even more fun for him if he's got a factory radio, no harness connector and doesn't know how to use a meter. Maybe he'll get lucky unless your ESP has disproven the above three scenarios.
