Tire Sizes...

I am getting ready to replace the tires on my 91 tercel. From the information I can find the original tires should be 155/80/13. My car has 185/70/13's on it right now. So I think they are about an inch taller than factory. Should I go back to the factory size or stay with whats on it? It is a 3 spd auto so with out OD it is a little buzzy on the highway and I guess it would rev a little higher if I went back to the original size. Also, anybody know a good cheap brand of 13'' tires? Thanks.

yeah i think they are called R13 tires, fairly cheap around 30$ a peice. Check at ur local tireshops, they usualy have some kind of a deal like 4 tires for price of 3 or discount for buying 4 at once. check it out.

Im not realy sure what numbers mean also where did u find these numbers?

Here is an easy to use tire calculator:
http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireMath.dos

You should be able to use 175/70-13 tires with no problems. They are only .11 inches shorter. You find this out by entering the tire measurements in each side of the calculator and click "Specs/Compare".

175 is the width in mm.
70 is the aspect ratio for the side wall height. 70% of 175mm.
13 is the wheel diameter in inches.

You may need to check inside clearances near the struts/shocks because they are 20mm wider than stock.

The 185 in the size is the width of the tire and the 80 or 70 is the ratio of the width to the height if I remember correctly. I have 175-70-r13's on my '89 tercel and they seem to be a good fit. I don't recommend the 155 tires - the cornering is not very good with such a thin tire. If the 185's have been serving you well, then I would replace them with the same size. Wider tires give you better cornering.

Ya i wouldn't recomend the 155 80 r13. depending where you are in canada, you can get the motomaster tires from canadian tire. The 155 80 r13's are like 34 bucks each
