RH Drive shaft stuck in transaxle of '94 Tercel

So... I'm needing to replace the drive shafts on my '94 Tercel (manual) and I'm finding it utterly impossible to break the suction holding in the RH drive shaft. I've tried prying it loose as it says to do so in the Hanes manual and I've also tried tapping (erm... pounding) it loose via tapping the lip that's on the outer race with a bar and hammer in the manner that it says to do so in the service manual (page SA-22). I've been able to get the outer race to be pushed out ~1.5". Any further and it gets sucked back in after each tap/pound/pry.

Help?

I can't find the section of the Haynes manual you are referring to, but if you're talking about the CV axle on the wheel side where it connects to it...

Use a 20lb sledgehammer and a block of wood or steel bar to break it loose. You may have to get a pneumatic hammer if that isn't enough - that's what the shops use to pop them out.

I've had trouble getting that side out before as well. What I did was take out the driver side cv shaft and, then get a long screwdriver, stick it in the hole on driver side of the transaxle. Be careful not to pick out a screwdriver that is too fat and will get stuck between the cross bar in the carrier and the spider gears of the diff, you can damage the teeth. Position the screwdriver on the end of the cv shaft that is still in the transaxle, and give it a sharp tap. That should dislodge the spring clip that holds the shaft in from it's seat.
