Easy A/C fix for me, for free!

My new-to-me 88 Tercel had been converted in the last few months to 134a refrigerant...recently the temps hit mid-90's in the Pacific Northwest and the best I could wring out of the vents on full recirc was 50-55 degrees or so. Pressures checked out, both fans worked fine, so ??. Turned out to be the dash temp control wasn't cycling the heater control valve fully closed! After manually closing the valve under the hood, I reached 39 vent degrees via an analog probe thermometer. Sweet relief!!! Now, having an auto trans means when the air is on power goes from 'really?' to 'you've got to be kidding' but the comfort level is worth it.

I guess you'd have a bad time where I live then. Here's a picture taken in my work area a couple of weeks ago. Time and date are shown plus temperature.

Yep, that kind of heat would not be something I'd enjoy
