How many miles on it? Is it running or not? What condition are your spark plugs, wires, rotor and cap in? Answer these three questions first, then we can pinpoint your problem.

Thanks for the help and your time. Ok the tercel has 135,000 miles on it. Plugs are new just put in before it went down without warning , running great before it went down and no warning at all. I replaced the ignition coil about 5,000 miles ago when it went bad. I started it at work drove slowly out of the lot about 150 feet at down it went like cutting the key off.
All this I mention is new after it went down and still no fire to the plugs after replacing all this. New distributor cap, new rotor button, new spark plug wires,Distributor (thought problem was the pickup coil), no it wasnt still no fire took the distributor back to auto zone, tried another ignition control modul i bought (used one said to be pulled from a running tercel) no help still no fire. So I put old distributor back in since the one I bought didnt help. As far as the ignition control module it appears both of them are ok, the one that was in the Tercel and the one I bought, either is making the car run.
I did put the distributor in right too # 1 cylinder up and rotor pointing at # 1.With the marks Toyota puts on the distributor makes it much easier. I marked both the body at plate where it bolts up and at the rotor button. aligned both up perfect. But it would still get fire even if timing was out anyway. Oh also rotor is turning so timimg belt is ok.
Well there it is all I can think I have done. I am completly screwed this time. All I can think to do is start testing with ohm meter the ignition system. Thats why I need to know the best way to troubleshoot the ignition system. Any help is greatly appreciated man again thanks for replying and keep safe.Moore

Ok. Your gonna need to test the ignition coil. With your ohm meter, measure across the positive and negative terminals. Then, measure from the positive to the high tension lead(where the spring makes contact). Post those numbers here. Did you replace the condenser when you got the new distributor? A shorted condenser will cause the problem your having. If it was an autozone coil, its not impossible for it to go bad prematurely. I had one go bad in 10k on my Camry. Got fed up and went to the dealer and replaced everything except for the ignitor.

Where is the condensor on a 92 toyota tercel?

Thanks, I was unaware that my tercel had a condenser ot it. If so where is it? The small round pc inside the distributor on the right side wall I am told is for radio static noise from the distributor. Anyway I replaced the pc. new from the dealer. Where is the condensor you speak of. It was a problem I know on old cars when points were used but didnt know the tercel had one. Again thanks, be sure to check or replace if I can find it . Moore.

There should be two wires with ring terminals on the positive post of the coil. One will be +12V and the other will go to the condenser. The condenser is mounted inside the distributor housing.
