head bolt torque

So today I reinstalled the head on my 5efe and got to use my snap-on torqometer for the first time in a real world test. I was right too! Using torque to yeild bolts even with proper lube on the washers and bolts resulted in extremely different torque values. The shorter bolts were torquing at 575-585 inch/lbs while the longer bolts only made 425-430. I set them all to the 585 in/lbs so they'd all be the same instead of attempting to back one off. If I have any issues I'll share. I wish I had gotten pics of the domed pistons. It really suprised me to see the 5efhe pistons I so much wanted. This engine came from a local salvage yard and appeared to be a rebuild even though all the seals are hard and brittle. I can't seem to find a correct oil pan/dip stick/tube combination either. One combo reads near correct but hits the bottom of the pan. Another combo says with 3.5qts it has no oil touching the stick.
