TercelTercel Rear Door Speakers & Audio Questions!

Hey everybody!

I'd like to start off by saying this is my first post on Toyotanation, I look forward to learning lots from everybody on here!

Basically I have a 1999 Tercel that I have upgraded the stock audio system. I'm running an Alpine head unit, some upgraded 4" speakers in the front doors, and I ran some speaker wire to some new 6.75" in the rear. I also have an 1200 Watt 12" Infinity sub in a ported bassworx box.

Now, I am wondering if anybody has put speakers in the rear doors? if so, what size of speakers.. I figured I would write up a quick post here before I ripped off the door panel to look for myself!

I am also wondering if it is possible to upgrade the front speakers to 5 1/4" and still keep the original speaker cover?

On my Alpine deck I only have one RCA output.. how would I go about amplifying my speakers.. ( I'm new to the concept of amping your speakers as well ). My amp is 2500 Watts and is 4 channel and bridged to provide enough power to my sub.

Thanks in advance for any feedback/input !

That's a lot of power on a Tercel alternator. I haven't tried the 5.25" speakers but I know shallow ones fit. I don't see any real purpose for rear round speakers as your sub will over ride them plus high range speakers are very directional and aren't heard well unless pointed at you.

You can get an rca splitter or a preamp equalizer with a bandpass to only send low notes to the sub. I'm old school on audio so you prolly want to talk with people in that section.

Thanks for the reply!

I'm looking for a little bit more midrange, so that I can turn down my sub a tad.. That's why I want to up the size in the front, from the 4" size.. Also, how do I amp my speakers.. do I run the speaker wires to the amp.. or is it all through the RCA cables?

Oh yeah, my lights dim a bit when the bass drops

Thanks,

- Tercelcalade

Speaker level input amps aren't as quality as line level (rca) amps are. How did you run your sub?

Ran my sub with RCA.. to the amp.. then power and ignition wire.. That doesn't mean my speakers are amped then, though, right?

Your lights will dim because there is a lot of power drawn by the amplifier and the alternator can't keep up so you will need (otherwise you might accelerate the alternator deterioration) a capacitor (2 farads). http://www.sonicelectronix.com/cat_i6_capacitors.html

In your alpine deck, adjust the Low Pass Filter to the minimum possible and the High Pass Filter to the value that you like. If you want more mid-range, you might want to consider buying 2-way round 4" speakers for the front and standard round 5.25" for the rear.

If you want more than the 50W supplied by your Alpine deck, you will need to add a 4 channel amplifier to your 1 channel sub woofer amplifier. I think your Alpine deck provides sufficient sound quality and buying an additional amplifier is not really mandatory.

My amp is 4 channel, can I not just use it to amp my front speakers?

Take a look at this image :

This is the PERFECT wiring for a sub woofer and 4 speakers because you can adjust your High/Low pass filters in each amplifier ! This is the best setup if you are looking for independent tweaking and tuning.

Did you bridge it to run your sub? Or did you install a mono amp to drive your woofer?

Does not matter ! RCA cables (white and red) will provide left and right sound in the front and in the back.
