timing belt

How often should I change my timing belt. I have read in the books every 60,000 miles. However, a mechanic at the local garage told me you only need to do it every 90,000 miles. He also said to just "let it break" because nothing would happen to the car except that oyu woul;d need a tow. Was his statement accurate and how many miles?

I don't think I would let it break, even though I think the 5EFE is non-interference, or at least I heard my 92 Paseo is.

Beon the safe side and change evry 60,000 miles, You never know where you will be when it breaks. If you have a front main leaking it is the perfect time to rplace that seal since you are in there.

water pump isn't part of the timing belt but its a good idea to change it around 80k or a little sooner since they start to go around then. timing belt every 60k
