Another T-Belt question

Hey,
I have another question to ask about timing belts. If the drivebelt pulley isn't on properly, would that also damage the sprocket that is holding the timing belt, cause on my Tercel 3EE engine that sprocket is getting eat out, along with the half moon key and drive pulley. I thinking that the pulley bolt isn't applying pressure to the timing belt sprocket, since the plastic cover is between the sprocket and the pulley. So how would there be damage to the sprocket, unless the crankshaft itself is out of balance somehow. Anybody also knows what the special tool looks like that properly puts on the drive pulley? Let me know, thanks.

When I read your paragraph, I don't get it....

You should have in this order, a bolt, Crank pulley, Timing belt cover, timing belt guide, crankshaft timing pulley.

Do you have the timing belt guide? it is between the crank pulley and timing pulley. It gets crushed between the two pulleys and allows the space necessary for the timing belt cover...it also holds the timing belt in alignment.

These pulleys should slide on with just your hands, if they don't use emery cloth to resize the shaft.

The bolt gets put in with some locktight thread locker and torqued to about 180lbs, but do this only once you are sure everything is fine....

Well the problem as I saw it is that the outer pulley was wobbling when the engine is running. That's when i heard this clicking sound and I think that was the pulley getting eat out along with the half moon key. I replaced the pulley and the key and tightened it with an impact wrench and it's no longer wobbling, so hopefully my problem is fixed and I can stop letting Avis and Budget get rich off of me.
