Underdrive crank pulley

Anybody heard or had experience with this underdrive crank pulley from Nonstop Tuning? I''m thinking about getting one. Let me know what you all think. Here's the link: http://www.nonstoptuning.com/pKitToyTerc.htm

Looks alot like the Diabolique Racing underdrive pulley that they get from ASP Racing. In any case, as long as its not going on a Turbocharged set up, go for it! Check ebay 1st, I've seen pulleys on their for $45! The pulley was great on my 3E-E, so I know on a 5E-FE it would be nice!

Ok, this will sound like i don't know a damn thing but i am kinda new to imports and really new to toyotas i know general things that can be done to improve performance, ok well i know alot about improving performance on many things but what exactly does an underdrive crankshaft pulley actually do ......my friend had a t-bird supercoupe and put an underdrive pulley on the supercharger so it would kick out more psi so i am thinking that is has some affect on RPMs am i close

Well the underdrive crank pulley is what drives the belts to the alternator, water pump, powersteering pump, and a/c compressor. These things take engine energy to run, so I guess having a performance pulley will create less work for the engine and put that extra saved horsepower into the wheels. Maybe the pulley is lighter or designed to get more energy per revolution.

Changing to a smaller crank pulley is like changing to a lower gear in your transmission. Less effort is being exserted by the engine to drive the accessories. The torque and horse power that is not being used to drive the accessories can now be used for acceleration.
The down side to this is that your alternator, water pump, power steering pump and A/C compressor are now turning slower in relation to your engine. Depending on how effecient these units are the effect of them turning slower might not be felt by you. If on the other hand any of them are not very effecient, you might find that your battery does not charge well, your A/C doesn't cool, your water temp runs a little higher in the city or your steering feels heavier.
It is a possible trade off but if accelleration is your goal, the pulley swap is probably one of the most non-invasive ways to gain.

Bear in mind, this works best on N/A applications as a turbo set up will most likely be using a harmonic balancer which you would not want to remove.
