i have an 81 corolla tercel i'm wanting to restore. Runs alright, but there's alot of work that needs to be done. Anybody who has worked on one of these before have any tips or suggestions?
it has a 3A-C engine. If I want to put a more powerful engine in it, what kind should I be looking for? I've looked around on here and hear 4A/AGE. Just wondering what the best option is and the best place to find it. Will either of these drop straight in?
i don't have a ton of money to put into it at the moment, just trying to do some research and keep it running until I can do the work. the exterior is in good condition, but almost everything else is original and needs to be replaced/updated.
lets see some pics of your car man, but yea that 4age will drop in your car without a problem, visit cardomain and look for 81 tercels or corollas and get some ideas...
back to the 81 tercel... which cars come with the 4AGE?
My car hasn't been running for a little while b/c the timing belt broke, so I may be looking at a swap sooner than I was counting on.
jercer420 what kind of stuff have you done to your car?
Hi i have an 80 tercel with the 1-AC i have also heard about the 4age aslo i heard you might be abel to put a 3tc in a tercell ... not for sure but i found a 83 or 84 tercell hatchback with a 3tc in it ... iam also looking for a motor swap for my tercel (80)... you might want to start looking at what comes in the corollas in the 80s
You're going to want to look for a mid 80's Corolla GT-S RWD, just look for one thats rotted out somthing, if it has all kinds of "racing" decals on I would probably stay away because it has probaby been bagged on. A friend of mine has a GTS, but we're all the way up here in ontario. Keep in mind if you want to swap to a fuelie 4AGE, youre going to have to upgrade the fuel system too. (for mine I'm using a Bosch pump from an old volvo and a Mallory furl regulator from summit)
It is nice to see that someone else is interested in this car as well. Depending on how much you drive it, you can get antique plates for it as it is now 25 years old. Not only will it save you money on the registration, but you are now exempt from emissions tests which is very important. I don't know where you live but in Ill they put the car on the dyno, and the majority of the time the staff do not know how to drive stick. I don't know about you, but I don't feel warm and fuzzy about letting someone that does not know drive my car. This happened to my Nissan and it cost me a lot of money in front end work after the SMOG NAZIS got finished with it.
