another quickie, has anyone done a wheel bearing on one of these, any manual ive seen
says you have to go to toyota to have it set up, something about spacer shims, thanks again.
Front or rear?
I just replaced my rear drums and had to install new bearings in them. It is not difficult.
The fronts I plan to do soon. Those appear to be a little trickier.

yeah the front right
its not so bad if your haulin really hard or turning right, other than that its sucks.
supposedly theres two bearings with a washer in the middle that i heard you can only get from toyota, different sizes it says, but you know how haynes manuals are.
I have on '92 Paseo front struts with the steering knuckle and brakes. The front wheel bearing is the same part number '92 Paseo & '89 Tercel. It is a double row ball bearing type having one outer race and two inner races with two rings of balls. I have experimented with the old Tercel steering knuckle on extracting the bearing and have found it to be do-able without the specified tools, but tricky. I have quite a selection of tools to improvise with, but if you don't it would be best done with the correct tools.
I bought my replacement bearings from Advance Auto Parts, the Toyota dealer said they would have to order them for me.
I have a Toyota Shop manual for the Paseo since I have in a Paseo engine, and all the other important stuff between the two cars are similar or exactly the same. The Haynes manual that I have for the '89 Tercel is not as clear or comprehensive as the shop manual.
e-mailme at < donislandman@triad.rr.com > and I will try and scan you the pages from the Shop manual so you can decide if you want to try it yourself or take it to a mechanic.
One other thing ...... Are you sure it is the bearings and not the CV joint ?

I got a bearing from Canadian Tire for my 94 tercel for $55 and tax. I removed the whole strut\wheel bearing assy, took it to a local garage. He had to put some heat on it, and had to force it but it came out.....cost me $12 to have it replaced.
sorry, its a 1981 sr5 3a tercel two door, i have the bearings for it, there br5's from SKF bearings, all im worried about is the center washer, all my manuals wont even tell me how to repack the old ones and say that you shouldnt even touch them because they say "its a toyota operation".
So if anyone has had one of these apart or has seen a break-down on the parts it would be
very helpful.
Ohhhh! an '81. No I've never done one of those. If the book says take it to Toyota, I'd do that. Good luck.
