I need to replace the front passenger side axle. Can anyone tell me if it is a hrad thing to do? Should i take it to a garage? The garage quoted me 153.00 plus tax..
I did both of mine for less than that. Go to autozone and get the axle. The ones i got are lifetime warranty and were not that expensive. I ve had them in for over 5000 mile and no problems. Its really easy to do them your self too. If you need help just ask.

It is not dificult if you are a mechanic and have all the right tools, ie: tie rod end puller, 1/2" impact wrench or a big breaker bar, torque wrench, a slide hammer with some way to grip the shaft would be good too. Just get a shop manual and follow the steps and you will be alright.
The most difficult part is trying to loosen or tighten the axle nut if you don't have an impact wrench. Then you will need someone to press the brake pedal for you while you apply the breaker bar to the nut.
Good luck.

You ever try and get a shop manual for an 85 Tercell? They don't exist, you can't even order one, that is why I am not real game about doing it. i have nothing to go by.

Have you checked ebay? Sometimes they're listed on there and you may even find a genuine toyota service manual.

It's a 95 tercell. Unfortunately i do have the owners manual, but you cannot get a Chiltons or a Haynes. For some reason that was a "switching" year where they changed a lot of things mid year. I thought I could order one or find one on E-bay, but no luck. The owners manual is no help with mechanics.
You don't have to remove the factory wheels, just pop off the plastic center and you'll see a large cotter pin and nut. Remove those, then remove the lower ball joint from the lower control arm. Should be 2 bolts and 1 nut per side on the control arm/ball joint. Pull the wheel outwards and rearwards as you push the axle from center of wheel. Tie Wheel back out of the way(bungee). Pry axle from transmission. Align new axle straigh as possible, hold pressure inwards and pop in with hammer. Slide end back into wheel center and reattach ball joint, then axle nut. Check diff oil and refill.
Pop lil hubcap back on wheel. Go test drive.
I can do both sides on a rack in under an hour.
ps, it's made EXACTLY like a 91-94 in that section.
