3EE to 5EFE engine swap

I have a '97 tercel with a remanufactured engine from AutoZone. It was in a wreck, mostly cosmetic damage. It did bend the frame some in front of the front tires. I am assuming it is a 5EFE engine. It is going to cost me too much to fix. I did find a 93 Tercel, which has a 3EE engine. I looked up VIN numbers in a Toyota parts catalog to find out the engine types. The '93 Tercel has been sitting for 2 years and has a blown head. Something about a piston, not sure. I have been searching the threads and it looks like I can do this swap myself. I am assuming that i will have to swap the computer also. Please confirm. From the forums, the trans. will bolt fine and the motor mounts will be good. Is there anything else that I will need to do to make this swap go smooth? My dad put the remanufactured engine in the '97 and he will be helping me do the swap. But before we begin, I would like to know if there is anything other than the physical engine and the computer that I will need to do to complete the swap. Both are automatic. Should I swap the trans. too? etc.

Why go backwards? The 3e is a SOHC motor that makes less than 100 hp. Your motor make around 95 and a 3e around 90. If anything, get a 5efe from a 92-95 Paseo or better yet, get a 5efhe. Yes you would need to swap the ecu and also the harness if you do a 3e or a 5efhe. You can save the trouble and get another DIS 5efe for around $500 and just replace what you have. I hope this helps.

Also the ignition systems are different so you'll have some headaches with that if not prepared.
The 95+ tercels are D.I.S., while the 91-94's are ditributed.

You should be able to find another 5efe for relatively cheap
considering if you get another 5efe, thats all you need, but going backwards to the 3ee you have alot more work to do.
