Using this thread...it would appear to be the lock up solenoid. Lucky fer you, I am documenting a manual override of the lockup solenoid. So it would be the solenoid with the yellow wire inside the transmission. ;)

Instructions and piccies...

Personally...I would take a shot at running some Auto-RX through the transmission and see if it can free up the sticking solenoid. BTW...how good is that transmission fluid? Are you sure you have it at the right level? Snap some piccies of the fluid and post them up. ;)

You can check the resistance/continuity of the yellow/black wire from the connector back to the ECU connector. Another thing is to trace the wiring and see if there are any nicks/cuts in the wire back to the ECU. Did the check engine light come on shortly after any maintenance was performed?

Have you tested the resistance of the solenoid at the connector yet? That's probably the easiest test without taking a bunch of stuff off. If the resistance is proper...it's probably just sticking. ;)

thank BamZipPow. your idea is working perfect. i take it out and test it. it has 70 ohm and i apply voltage it, but there is not click. so i ordered it yesterday. the guy told me i should get it by Monday. but my other question is how many quart of fluid do need to put in? and how do i check the fluid level?

No problem...just click that

button if you don't mind. :D

Since you drained the pan...that's about 2 quarts or so. I would just git a gallon of Supertech ATF from Walmart. Did you clean the pan and the magnets?

To check the fluid, you would use the transmission dipstick located on the left side of the engine by the brake master cylinder. This is the same place you would refill the transmission, too. ;)

Make sure you run through all the gears, the truck is parked on level ground, then test the fluid level with the engine idling in Park. Fluid level should be between the HOT marks. :D

hey, my part came in today, and put it on and CEL when aways (thanks). and i put in 2 1/4 quarts transmission fluid, but it show little on the end of dipstick with engine idle. the dealer also told me it only take 2.1 quarts. i still do not understand how much fluid do need to put in. my truck is 1996 t100 4x4. is 4x4 and 2x4 different?. any idea will fully thank.

You fill it until it's between the hot marks on the dipstick. It will take a few attempts to git it just right. Just add a little at a time and recheck. :D

The transmission actually takes more than 2.1 quarts...as the torque converter holds the majority of the fluid.

Thanks I'm gonna try the BG product .... but to tie this back to the original post, I think I will try the Auto Rx in my tranny ... I have been seeing the PO773 shift solenoid electrical "E" code intermittently ... no issue at all with the transmission that I can tell ... it goes 1st to 4th normally, 1st to 3rd if I have the O/D off....maybe the issue is an electrical anomaly, or just the beginning indications of an actual mechanical fault in a solenoid ?
BTW I will post more on the combustion/knocking issue in a new post if you care to comment further. Thanks for help !
