Starter Problem??

Hey gang, I've read some old posts about starter issues and I'm convinced I have a problem. I have a '96 T with the 3.4L V6 210k miles and it's been giving me intermittent starting problems for the last few weeks. I have a brand new battery and get a good click when I turn the key but it takes a few attempts before she fires. The previous owner had the starter rebuilt 5 yrs ago (122k). Any way I can be sure this is the problem? How about getting the starter off....looks complicated and I'm far from an expert. Advice??

i have a 94 with the 3.0 but had the exact same problem. it just clicked and it continuously got worse...it started to take quiet a few tries to get it to work. i replaced the starter and i worked great again

Whether your starter uses two rectangular types or one rectangular and one crescent you can substitute with two squares or one square and one crescent so any of the above part #'s for those kits will be the right ones,or about half of the auto electric shops in your local yellow pages would sell aftermarket contacts for only $5 each or the pair.

Thats how mine went out, I waited forever to replace it too I'd have to crawl down and tap on it or rock the truck back and forth to get it to turn. The Starter is simple to replace. On mine, I just went in behind the passenger side wheel, only three bolts to remove and unplug it if I remember right. Should take only 30-45 min tops. even for a "novice" like myself. I bought a re-man starter at auto-zone (I think) it's a little weak but it works. Kept the old one to re-build and use as a back up. I'v read that they are easy to rebuild too, maybe as simple as celaning the contacts.
