T-100 Question

I have a 1989 Toyota 4x4 standard cab with 149,000 miles and I love it. However, my wife and I just had a baby and the standard cab truck doesn't really acomodate all of us with that car seat.

We bought a newer car for my wife, but I don't want two payments.

I'm thinking hard about replacing my '89 with a T-100 X-cab. However, the pictures of the backseat I saw on eBay look questionable. Does anyone know if car seats can go in the back of the T-100? Is there any info in a T-100 owner's manual about this?

I sure would appreciate any advice T-100 owners could give me.

I have a 98T100XtracabSR5, 2wd, auto. We are out of the baby business but do have grandbabys. Only had the truck three months and haven't tried using a 'baby seat' on the back bench seat yet. Bucket seats are in the front. The back bench has three sets of seatbelts. I know of no reason why they could not be utilized for infants or children in their proper seats fastened in and the belts cinched tight. My owners manual is in the car and I will make an effort to examine it tomorrow and get back to you.

I was lucky to find my truck on a Honda dealers lot! It was a one owner with 107,000 miles on it and was well taken care of. The timing belt and the other belts, spark plugs, transmission flush, radiator flush, oil change, and even the full upper engine decarbon/fuel injection procedure was done by
a Toyota dealer a month before I bought it. The previous owner's wife talked him into trading it for a Honda Odyssey that is why it was on the Honda lot. It has the 3.4 V6 that has a good reliability record compared to the 3.0 V6's prior to the '96 T100 model years. This engine has plenty of pep for everyday needs and picking up supplies from lumber yards, etc. They claim it is not so hot for pulling boats and campers. The cab is plenty roomy and is very comfortable, and the ride is very satisfactory. Mileage is what you would expect for a full size truck like this.

I really like this truck and hope to keep it for a long time. I hope you can find what you are looking for. You would not be disappointed in the T100. If you get a chance take one for a test drive!

Thanks for the response--it sounds like you found yourself a good truck there.

We live in Montana and use our trucks for hunting, camping, fishing, etc. I haul stuff to the dump and make lumber yard runs, but generally don't need anything capable of pulling big trailers or campers. Just need something that can haul the family and the dogs and the camping gear and, well, you get the idea.

Anyway, if you get a chance to take a look at the owners' manual and can get back to me, I'd really be in your debt.

Thanks again.

T100 and Child Restraint System

According to my 1998 T100 Owner's Manual the vehicle conforms to SAE J1819. Here is a link that may be of interest: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/...FinalRule.html

The manual also states that 3 types of seats may be used in this truck: Infant Seat, Convertible Seat, and Booster Seat. Of course, install following the instructions provided by the 'seats' manufacturer.

One particular CAUTION was mentioned several times in the manual: "Do not put a rear-facing child restraint system on the rear seat if the child restraint system interferes with the front seat lock mechanism or with your proper driving position. This can cause severe injury to the child and front passenger in case of sudden braking or a collision. If your driving position is not satisfactory, install the child restraint system at another position."

The Rear Bench Seats in the T100 have three sets of seat belts. You could position the Child Restraint System on any of the three, as long as it does not interfer as stated in the above paragraph.

I hope this helps enable you to make your buying decision.

Best Wishes and Good Luck!

What are you looking fer in yer search fer a T-100? Manual or auto? 2WD or 4WD? Camper top? DX or SR5? Power windows/locks? I personally would stay away from the 93/94 years with the 3.0 engine even though I have a 1993 2WD SR5. Stick to the 1995 to 1999 ones...with the 3.4 engine. I believe that starting in 1997 the front seats were buckets. Usually if you see one with chrome backed mirrors, they are power mirrors.

There's a couple in craigslist fer Montana...

I've had a car seat in my 1996 with no problems, and she is now onto a booster seat. My two girls love the truck. They especially love it with the rear slider open so then can see out the back.
