Clutch

I just changed the clutch master cylinder because it was leaking. My clutch pedal now does not want to return at times. I checked the fluid level it was still full but dirty. What could the problem be?

Did you bleed out the line? Did you check/rebuild/replace yer slave unit? How good is yer clutch bracket? Any cracks in that?

I changed the slave cylinder at the same time of the master cylinder. I bled the fluid all the way through, but a another question is that how come the fluid became dirty in such a short time? It seems like the brackets are fine and the bushings are fine too. While the engine is off, I pump the clutch four times and on the fifth time I hold it down, it doesn't return. Usually when I drive the car, the clutch hardly returns when its in first gear. Once out of first gear it shifts and clutches just fine.

Since the clutch system is an independent system...it could be a few things.

If you bought all yer items new:

Someone could've switched the internals of one/both units with used parts.
The clutch flex (rubber) line could be bad.
The bleed valve could be bad or not tightened down all the way.

I'm pretty sure the master cylinder and the slave cylinder are good. I bought them brand new. it could be the rubber hose. I guess I'll try replace that and re-bleed the lines. thanks
