PO770 and PO773 engine code

My 98 T100 4WD has a check engine light on and showing codes P0770 and P0773 (shift solenoid E malfunction and shift solenoid E electrical respectively). I would love to solve this without paying the $950 the dealership is quoting. I'm happy to replace the solenoid myself if that's what needs to happen.

I have a Haynes Repair Manual and can easily remove the transmission pan. However, I can't find anything on where the shift solenoid E is located. Are there several solenoids under the pan? Which is which? Will replacing the solenoid solve the problem? Should I be testing something else?

Any help would be deeply appreciated. Pics would be awesome.

Jim

Don't know if this will help you or confuse you: http://www.*******.com/fsm/2000/Serv...id%20Ident.pdf. I believe the solenoid that you are look for is 'Shift Solenoid Valve SL'.

I would suggest doing some testing first for the code, like check the solenoid resistance to ground, and signal from the ECM to enable the solenoid. Because you problem may also be internal hydraulic problem too.

Are you sure the wiring harness is good? Check it over carefully...it's worth it's weight in gold.

Looks like those solenoids are going over $200 each...

Thanks N.E.O and BZP. This document is just what I'm looking for. I'll do some more testing.

I just want to thank both N.E.O and BZP for their help with my T100 problem. I ended up removing the shift solenoid SL and testing it. Sure enough, it was showing a lower than normal resistance. The new solenoid (sold only throught the dealership) was $275. Replaced on Dec. 30, 2008 and haven't seen an engine light since.

You would need to check each wire to/from the trans to the ECU using a multimeter and some extra wire.
