Opinions?tcase noise

Alright guys Ive been looking for a beater 4x4 toyota for awhile and came upon a cheap t100(one owner 196k mile auto 4x4).Anyways before hand he told me the rear drive shaft was broke and some body damage. So i get there and first thing first rear driveshaft is trashed.I look under the vehicle and saw a some gear oil on the ground(he just used a tow dolly and towed it about 50 miles). He said it needed this seal he had(pinion seal) but the leak wasnt from there. looked to be some sort of thing closer towards the pasengerside some sort of hump maybe a drain plug im not sure really.Anyways after that I wanted him to back the truck up so I could listen for noises in the third member. He starts the truck and goes to put it in 4x4 while its in part.It makes all sorts of grinding noise(but the 4wd light lit up).So he moves out of the way I sit down put the truck in neutral and procede to put it in 4wd.All sorts of grinding so I put the tcase back in neutral and truck back in park.At this point im thinking If i can get it super super cheap I might buy it.Expecting at a minimum replace the third member, rear driveshaft, tcase.Anyone have any insight into the grinding noise but it lights up??let me know.Sorry head of time for the huge run on

Could be a lot of things...the only real way is to either gamble and take yer chances or put it up on the lift and find out fer sure. Good luck with the purchase...

well,id be getting the truck for less than 1000.Its currently parked at this guys place but no way to get it on a lift. What are common causes of that in the tcase.Could the case just be shit?I know he also drove it for about 50 miles as a fwd.lol.I just need a beater and if i can get it cheap i dont mind slapping a tcase in it as it cant be that hard of a job same with third member or anything else
