I have a 1997 T100. Coming upon 100000 miles. Trying to change the Manual Trans oil. I heard that red line sells (75W90) MT-90 Synthetic Gear Oil (GL4 rating!) Sounds good! Right! Well I had a Chevy before my Toyota. I changed the M. Trans oil in my S-10 and it took a crap right after! Wrong oil! non-compatible??? Found out the hard way!!!
The question is... Can use this MT-90 Synthetic Gear Oil in my 1997 Toyota T100??? Please help???

According to my factory service manual...75W90 gear oil...API-4 or API-5 rating. So that should do just fine.
Just make sure you take off the fill plug off first. Don't want to see you drain it before you find out you can't take it off. Seems like who ever did those plugs...put them on super tight. I had to break out the vice grips and a sledge hammer to git my differential plug free...
BamZipPow,
Thx Just didn't want to burn another Trans w the wrong oil! I'll always drive a Toyota truck in my lifetime! I LOVE THESE TRUCKS!!! Thanks again!
wait he said transmission fluid, so shouldnt he be using ATF. Isnt there a huge difference between trans fluid and axle oil? Just makin sure we arent reading wrong, lol.

Some people sometimes call it the wrong stuff but they know where it is. If you click his links you can see he's talking about gear oil. Thanks fer watching out fer Hawaiian35!
On a manual trans, gear oil goes into the fill/check hole on the side of the trans.
On an auto, ATF (Auto Trans Fuid)goes into the dipstick tube (on most autos that is).
just curious... where the hell is our gear oil dip stick ???
Um...on the end of yer hand...it's called yer finger.
Manual transmissions don't need a dipstick...unless yer talking about the person behind the wheel.

Well..it should be within 5mm of the top of the hole. It shouldn't be pouring out...maybe just a dribble.

You'll most likely need a 24mm wrench for the tranny plug. Mine was overfilled when I checked it by about a quart, so put a pan under it to avoid a mess.
My wife wouldn't get near me for two days because I smelled like burnt tranny fluid.
