I'm contemplating the upgrades I'll be making this spring, and was glad to hear that the K&N Cold Air Intake was pointless on this engine, but I came across this:

Does anyone know if this is worthwhile, or just another fun thing to do that'll use my time and money without doing anything appreciable?

I hear that the deckplate mod is worthwhile - easy, cheap, pretty much right up my alley. Anyone have a yea or nay to say about it? I do almost all of my drivin' city, so heavy dust and offroad is expected to be less than 5% of my miles.

Other suggestions for middlin' simple, useful mods to improve ponies or MPG are entirely welcome, of course.

Danno, who has to wrench a lot to make the new toolset pay off....

Throttle body spacers don't work...neither do any "speed" chips out there...same fer the Tornado insert.

actually LCE engineering has been doing some testing and have found that the TBS does add some power and drivabilty. Minor but does do what it claims. No going to make you bossted by any means but if a little is all you want maybe it is an option.

I'm not lookin' for the acceleration and performance I got in my Saab sportscars (well, it'd be nifty, but I'm not unrealistic), but simple mods that'll help some would be good. I tend to average 60-100K miles in my vehicles - mostly, I drive 'em until they die, and expect to get quite a few good years out of this one. Putting the good mods in now, rather than next year, just sorta seems to make sense.

With the TBS, I was hopin' more for low-end torque than for extra mileage, though passin' a few more gas stations won't hurt my feelings any.

Mostly, though, I'm thrashing in the dark here - I don't know what works or what doesn't, so I'm plannin' on leaning on the expertise here for suggestions. What else is expertise good for?

nothing helps gas mileage more than a street tire over an off road. As for the rest... Let me know what you find! the 3.4 leaves a little to be desired pulling a horse through the Adirondacks...

I've heard good things about the gibson cat-back, but you gain mid range at the cost of some low end (so I hear). This may not be what you're looking for, though...

how would the deckplate mod wirk with the max oxygen sensor on the computer?

and would 31x10.5 street tread tires depleat the mpg any? i know i want that size i just dont know if if want all terrain or street tread. i wont be doing anything major. just throwin up some red dirt every once and a while

You can't have yer cake and eat it too...unless you spend a lot of money on it. Then you can do whatever you want...

It all depends on how much road driving you do. I have 235 ATs on mine and do mostly 99% on road driving...I know the ATs will be there when I do a little off-roading...
